Visit Noss Mayo

Hidden on the southern bank of the Yealm Estuary, and just a 10-minute drive from the Rose & Crown, a trip to the village of Noss Mayo is the perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. 

Artists, be sure to bring your paintbrushes and try your hand at capturing the beautiful South Devon light on canvas. While the hours away with a walk along the stunning cliffs of the South West Coast Path, and why not give sailing or fishing a go?


Explore Dartmoor

Dartmoor National Park’s dramatic landscape draws visitors from across the globe, yet never seems to feel crowded. It’s just 12 miles from Yealmpton. Explore iconic tors, wooded valleys, expanses of open moorland, and flowing rivers. 

There really is something for everyone; from walks for all abilities, horse-riding and cycling, to photography, geocaching, watersports, climbing, festivals and more.

Get wet at Bigbury

Bigbury-on-Sea, a beautiful South Hams coastal village that’s less than half an hour from the Rose & Crown, offers a fun day out for couples and families alike. The beach is a paradise for watersports lovers, with bodyboarding, surfing, windsurfing, and even kitesurfing being popular here. Equipment hire facilities are found on the beach. 

You’ll also find plenty of rockpools harbouring an abundance of wildlife, perfect for keeping young adventurers occupied throughout the day. Overlooking the beach is Burgh Island, which can be easily reached for exploring on the famous Sea Tractor!

Discover Wembury

The stretch of coastline at Wembury is a renowned haven for diverse wildlife. The cliffs are nothing short of dramatic and their curious formations extend to the beach, where a seemingly endless variety of rock pools awaits. 

Wembury Beach is just six miles away and, much like Bigbury-on-sea, is a celebrated lido frequented by watersports. If you fancy a slower pace, head to Wembury Marine Centre, or take one of the delightful walking paths to Wembury Woods or the Yealm Estuary.


Riverford Farm Shop

Riverford Farm Shop has been Yealmpton’s hub for organic produce since 1995. A proper butchers and fishmongers that also sells fresh fruit and veg, you’re sure to want to take a taste of organic Devon home with you! 

Stop off for a delicious treat at the Riverford Café and, if you fancy something a bit different, go and pick your own fruit at Kitley’s, which is just next door.
